The project to establish a postal bank in Algeria is part of a clear desire to reform the national financial landscape. Supported by the extensive network of Algeria Post (4,500 offices), this initiative aims to strengthen financial inclusion, particularly in rural areas, and to capture liquidity from the informal sector.
The appointment of Chiraz Bachiri, who comes from the banking sector, as head of Algérie Poste marks a strategic turning point. Her expertise should accelerate digitization, diversification of services (credit, savings, electronic payments), and modernization of management.
Minister Sid Ali Zerrouki emphasizes the importance of Algeria Post for the country's digital transition. Partnerships with the BNA and CNEP-Banque reflect this momentum, although challenges remain: IT infrastructure, staff training, and appropriate regulation.
The creation of a banking subsidiary would enable Algérie Poste to play a central role in mobilizing savings, supporting SMEs, and promoting electronic payments, while consolidating a modern and equitable public service.
