During his interview with the national press, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed his commitment to improving the purchasing power of Algerians. He announced that 47% of salary increases have already been implemented, and that the remaining 53% will be implemented between 2026 and 2027, thus doubling the salaries of civil servants. This move is part of a development vision aimed at making Algeria an emerging country with a GDP of $400 billion.

The president welcomed the drop in inflation to 3.8%, down from over 9% following the pandemic, as a result of improved trade regulation and measures to combat speculation. He emphasized that commodity prices are now affordable, even out of season.

On the social front, he reiterated that the government guaranteed free education for a third of the population and paid unemployment benefits. He also stated the need to strengthen the value of the dinar by controlling inflation, promoting electronic payments, and combating informal practices.

Regarding imports, the president clarified that there is no austerity policy, but rather an effort to balance the needs between local production and imports, supported by digitization. Foreign exchange reserves remain at an acceptable level, covering 18 months of imports.

Finally, he mentioned the commercial contracts signed at the Intra-African Fair, which are expected to boost non-hydrocarbon exports and pledged to meet with economic operators to accelerate their implementation. He concluded by calling for national solidarity in the face of attempts at destabilization, asserting that Algeria is on the right track.
