Cement and derivative exports: Lafarge Algérie forecasts 4.2 million tons in 2026

news-detail

This target set by the group should be supported by a decarbonization strategy by reducing CO2 by 10% per ton of cement produced. And to boost its exports further, the group plans to inject $18 million to industrialize logistics. “Much remains to be done on this investment part,” he acknowledged. In this wake, the manager said that the construction of the first shipper located at the port of Djen Djen (Jijel) allows today to load a 40,000-ton ship in two or three days.  The second major investment is the first logistics hub just down the road for clinker exports. “It was connected to rail in partnership with the Société Nationale de Transport Rail (SNTF),” says Hafid Aouchiche, director of export and public relations at Holcim Group.

The third investment concerns the reinforcement and renovation of the fleet of cement trucks ensuring the transport of goods to be exported and overcoming logistical constraints. "The lack of trucks is affecting the pace of exports. Loading rates must meet the requirements of the international market,' he says. Regarding the 2022 review of Lafarge, George recalls the launch of the first green cement in Algeria called Chamil Ecoplanet. Sales of this product are expected to reach 20% by 2026. In terms of sustainability, the group has launched the project of a 100% solar-powered plant in partnership with Algerian start-ups. He also mentioned four lines equipped with the latest generation of bag filters to reduce dust emissions.

As for the environmental footprint, the balance sheet shows 270,000 tons of waste treated, including 7,200 tons of industrial waste, 254,000 tons of dam mud and 15,000 tons of iron waste. Similarly, Lafarge ensured the certification (ISO 14001) of all its cement plants.
