Algerian public companies Sonatrach and Sonarem have started work on the
integrated phosphate project, which includes the opening of the Blad El Hedba
mine in Tébessa, the development of chemical transformation facilities at Oued
Keberit (Souk Ahras) and the production of fertilizers at Hadjar Soud (Skikda),
with port facilities planned at Annaba. This strategic project is expected to
create some 12,000 direct jobs during construction and 6,000 direct and 24,000
indirect jobs during the operational phase. The EPC (engineering, procurement,
and construction) contract will be signed in December 2024.
The complex is expected to produce 10 million tons of raw phosphate per year
for fertilizer and other products, with an export capacity of approximately 1.3
million tons of phosphate providing expected revenues of $1.9 billion per year.
