During a hearing at the National People's Assembly, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr Arkab, presented the sector's projects as part of the 2026 budget. He announced a new call for tenders to strengthen foreign partnerships in hydrocarbon following the success of the "Algeria Bid Round 2024."

The sector aims to increase hydrocarbon reserves and production, supported by a modern regulatory framework. Refining projects are underway, including a new refinery in Hassi Messaoud units in Skikda and Arzew.

In petrochemistry, Sonatrach is developing complexes in Arzew, Turkey, and Skikda. In the mining sector, several strategic projects are underway, particularly in iron, phosphate, and zinc, which will drive economic diversification and reduce importations.

New mineral processing plants (dolomite, barite, diatomite) are supporting local demand and exploration. Mining production has increased, enabling the export of 900,000 tons of phosphate worth $80 million.

Hydrocarbon production remains stable (128 million TOE), while local consumption is increasing. The sector now employs 200,000 people, 9,000 more than in 2024.
