Algeria leads the way in Arab oil production – July 2025

Algeria has signed five major contracts in the hydrocarbons sector, covering nearly 700 billion cubic meters of gas and 560 million barrels of crude oil. These agreements, concluded with eight international companies on five exploration blocks, are part of the new hydrocarbons code and cover 30 years, including seven years dedicated to exploration. Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab hailed this progress as a sign of the renewed attractiveness of the Algerian market.

Among the key partnerships is the one between Sonatrach and Italy's Eni for the Zemoul Kabir field, with an investment of $1.35 billion. Algeria thus ranks among the world's top five oil producers, alongside Egypt, Iraq, and Norway, confirming its central role in the regional and global energy recovery.
