Gara Djebilet Mine: Sonarem and the Chinese company MCC discuss the development of iron ore processing

The CEO of the Sonarem Group, Belkacem Soltani, welcomed a delegation from the Chinese company MCC (China Metallurgical Group Corporation) to the group's headquarters on Thursday. The delegation was led by Jia Ningchuan, CEO of MCC International, and attended by Reda Belhadj, CEO of the national iron and steel company (Feral).

A meeting between Algerian representatives and a Chinese delegation focused on cooperation in developing the Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit in Tindouf. Discussions concerned the processing of iron ore and the reduction of its phosphorus content. Mr. Soltani emphasised the use of modern methods to improve this process and proposed the creation of Algerian-Chinese working groups to accelerate technical testing on site. He also highlighted Algeria's mining potential, which is capable of meeting national needs and considering exports. The Chinese delegation reaffirmed its interest in the project, expressing its willingness to develop a roadmap, launch preliminary trials, and establish a joint working group to advance this strategic project and support the development of the Algerian mining sector.
