We have enormous potential and decades-old
know-how that could offer the sector enormous opportunities for expansion on
the local and international markets,” economic operators active in the textile
industry, present at the National Exhibition of Textile Products, Clothing and
Footwear held at the Palais des Expositions from 10 to 19 April, unanimously
insisted in front of the television cameras.
Only the relaunch of the local cotton crop,
abandoned for reasons that are so far unexplained, would, for many textile
manufacturers, be able to break the chain of dependence, which is very
burdensome and constraining economically, on the external market.
This
call, more than once expressed, could perhaps be listened to this time by the
highest authorities of the country, who seem more than ever, determined to head
for “this promising sector, all the indicators of which suggest a winning
market locally and abroad because opening up to several free trade blocs (Arab,
African and European), in addition to the skilled and non-expensive workforce and
the strategic geographical positioning of the country”, hailed, indeed, the
Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, in an intervention made
at the Fair.
