280 exhibitors, 60 countries, 5,000 trade visitors

This major event brings together about 280 exhibitors from 60 countries, showcasing allergen-free, vegan, gluten-free and sustainable products. Around 5,000 trade visitors are expected, including distributors, buyers from the mass retail sector, chains specialising in organic products, and research and development experts.

According to the ministry's press release, "The Minister for Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, has travelled to attend the show opening, alongside Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA). Both represent Algeria as part of an official delegation of national companies active in the healthy food industry sector.

Diversifying, structuring, and exporting

This Algerian presence is part of a wider drive to diversify non-hydrocarbon exports. Natural agri-foodstuffs, in particular, are emerging as a lever. As public authorities step up initiatives to reposition Algeria in high-value-added markets, the sector is becoming more visible and gaining institutional support.

In May, national economic operators were officially invited to participate in this trade show, recognized for its strong commercial potential. Priority was given to companies offering healthy, natural products free from chemical additives.

Algeria's participation is not intended to be symbolic over and above the immediate objective of exporting to a rapidly expanding global sector; the aim is also to promote Algeria's culinary heritage and gain recognition for the proven quality of its organic products.

Dates, olive oil, honey, figs...

Although concrete information on these products remains limited, Algeria can rely on one major asset: its very-high-quality dates. These are now receiving increased attention from the public authorities, with the creation of a commission dedicated to exports. It aims to remove the logistical, regulatory and customs obstacles that still hinder their access to European and Asian markets.

Another example is olive oil, which regularly wins awards at international competitions, particularly in France, Japan, and Canada. In recent years, brands such as Dahbia, Numidia and Benaceur have won prestigious medals. The sector is considered to have high potential, particularly in the organic and premium market segments, which are well represented in Vienna.

Alongside the flagship products, segments like natural herbal teas, honey, dried figs, and additive-free vegetable preserves offer real niches with strong export potential. However, the guest of honour status, while giving Algeria a higher profile, with a central pavilion, official speeches, and increased media coverage, is no substitute for an effective commercial strategy. The signing of contracts will depend above all on the ability of companies to meet the requirements of the European market in terms of quality, traceability, and packaging.

In short, Algeria's participation in Vienna is aligned with the country's export ambitions and constitutes a valuable showcase. But beyond the symbolism, the operators' success will depend on concrete, measurable results in the field.
