The meeting between the Algerian and South African ministers, attended by the South African ambassador to Algeria and the CEO of Sonatrach, reaffirmed the historic and solid relations between the two countries. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy, mining, and renewable energy, following on from President Cyril Ramaphosa's state visit in December 2024.

The two parties agreed to expand their collaboration in the hydrocarbon sector, particularly in research, exploration, and processing of mineral resources, with a particular focus on critical metals needed for green technologies. They also explored opportunities for investment and exchange of expertise in the oil and gas industries, as well as in electricity, solar, wind, energy storage, and green hydrogen, within the framework of the African Hydrogen Alliance.

The Algerian minister highlighted the advantages of the domestic market and the new regulatory framework favourable to investment, inviting South African companies to participate. For his part, the South African minister expressed his country's desire to strengthen its economic ties with Algeria, proposing joint projects and technology transfer in the mining and renewable energy sectors.
