Algeria is now the second largest supplier of natural gas to Europe, according to the monthly report published by the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF). Algeria has held a 20% share of gas exports by pipeline to Europe since January this year, until the end of September. The first place, according to the same report, went to Norway, with 54% of natural gas exported to Europe by pipeline over the same period, while Russia, whose supplies have been cut off via the Nord Stream pipeline since last year (2022), came in third, accounting for 17% of exports to Europe via pipelines. Algeria, which has long been the third largest supplier of natural gas to Europe, with 10-11% market share, behind Russia, which was at 50%, and Norway at 18%, has been able to take advantage of the current crisis in the European gas market to establish itself as a significant player in this market. The African Energy Agency predicted that three countries, including Algeria, would dominate gas supplies from the African continent.
