The Minister of Labour, Fayçal Bentaleb, has announced a national strategy dedicated to the development of the social and solidarity economy (SSE), in line with the orientations of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This strategy aims to provide a legal framework for an economic model that is already rooted in Algerian culture (Waqf, Zakat, Touiza, etc.).
Objectives and concrete actions
· 742 projects supported; 72 projects financed in 12 pilot wilayas
· Program supported by the European Union and UNDP.
· Goal: encourage employment, social justice, and reduce the informal sector.
A pillar of the social state
The SSE is presented as a lever for equitable and sustainable development, reinforced by historical values of solidarity, highlighted during the COVID-19 crisis.
Digitisation of the SSE
The Minister for Startups, Nourredine Ouadah, advocates for the digitalization of the SSE by online platforms and digital tools to promote traditional know-how in the 58 wilayas.
International partnerships
· The EU and UNDP actively support this approach.
· Diego Mellado (EU) stresses the importance of the SSE model for economic resilience.
· Natacha Van Rijn (UNDP) highlights the involvement of women (58% of projects selected) and efforts to create a favourable ecosystem.
Algeria aims to make the SSE a central pillar of its public policies, drawing on its cultural roots, solid international partnerships, and a strong commitment to digital modernization.
