Free Trade Aone (Zlecaf): The "Getex" textile complex prepares to join the zone

Toufik Berkani, Managing Director of the "Getex" textile complex, revealed on national radio on Wednesday that "the complex is in the process of setting up production units in border regions, with a view to entering the free trade zone with neighbouring countries at the lowest possible cost", noting that "neighbouring countries are rich in raw materials".

Speaking on national radio, Toufik Berkani explained that the complex was endeavouring to reposition itself on the national market and to introduce its products more deeply into Africa for faster trade at lower cost, noting that "the leather sector in Algeria is one of the reliable contributors to the national economy".

It should be noted that the Governor stated that the Getex complex had concluded several agreements with small institutions to offer opportunities to young people with projects in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underlining "the political, economic and social will to achieve a secure start to a balanced and sustainable life for the national economy".

At the same time, he pointed out that "the biggest concern in the leather and textile sector is the import of raw materials, despite the availability of capacity to produce them locally. This requires optimum use of local resources, in particular by adding value to sacrificial and second-hand hides in order to reduce the import bill".

He added that "the Getex Group is present at international economic and trade forums and events, particularly in Africa", noting that "the results for 2023 are excellent compared with last year, thanks to its participation in trade fairs such as those in Senegal, South Africa and Nouakchott in Mauritania and other countries...".

According to Toufik Berkani, "the Algerian-Turkish partnership at the Tial company in Relizane has begun to bear fruit in this major integrated project, which exported more than a billion dinars in 2023, in addition to signing agreements with 7 foreign partners", he stressed.

With regard to the Algerian-Italian partnership, the spokesman explained that it is linked to training and the exchange of technologies, particularly in the field of quality.

As a reminder, Algeria's accession to the Guided Trade Initiative, as part of the effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement, is now a reality.
