This partnership, signed during the Algerian-Belarusian economic forum held on Monday in Algiers, focuses on the creation of a production unit dedicated to buses, a strategic segment for modernising the national transport fleet.
A bus factory located in Bouira
According to details provided by SFVUI, the future plant will be located at the Oued El Bardi site in the Bouira province. This choice is not insignificant: it is part of a strategy to consolidate the regional industrial fabric and stimulate local economic development.
A bus factory will soon be operational in this province, particularly in the urban, interurban, and school transport segments. This production capacity represents a major step forward for a sector that aspires to reduce its dependence on imports.
A heavy investment and more than 600 direct jobs
The project requires an estimated total investment of 4.7 billion dinars. Beyond its economic importance, it is a significant driver of employment: nearly 612 direct jobs will be created at the Bouira site. According to Samir Ardjoun, SFVUI's Director of Communications and Marketing, the goal is to establish a modern industrial chain that complies with international standards to guarantee a competitive and reliable product.
Renewing the national park and meeting growing demand
The production unit is part of a national program to modernise and renew the public and private vehicle fleet. With population growth, urban expansion, and increasing mobility needs, demand for buses continues to grow. Local production, therefore, appears to be a sustainable solution for controlling costs, reducing supply times, and encouraging the upskilling of Algerian workers.
Alongside this landmark agreement, the economic forum also saw the signing of several other memoranda between Algerian and Belarusian companies. These include an agreement between SNC Metal and Amkodor, and between Etrag and Bobruiskagromash, aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation, technology exchange, and diversification of national production.
A dynamic of enhanced cooperation
The creation of the Bouira bus factory is thus presented as a symbol of deeper cooperation between Algiers and Minsk. By focusing on the transfer of know-how and local production, Algeria is seeking to consolidate its industrial autonomy and lay the foundations for a genuine national mechanical engineering hub.
