Sonatrach signs an agreement in principle with China's Sinopec for the appraisal and development of the Gourara and Berkine-Est basins

ALGIERS - On Sunday in Algiers, the Sonatrach group signed an agreement in principle with the Chinese company Sinopec, aimed at defining the framework for cooperation between the two parties, in anticipation of the signing of one or more hydrocarbon contracts relating to areas of interest located in the Gourara and Berkine-Est basins.

Sonatrach et Sinopec ont signé un accord sous la supervision du ministre algérien de l'Énergie, Mohamed Arkab, pour évaluer et exploiter les ressources en hydrocarbures dans les bassins de Gourara et de Berkine-Est. L'accord, conclu par Ferhat Ounoughi pour Sonatrach et Wu Xiuli pour Sinopec, prévoit une phase de collaboration de six mois renouvelable, avec la possibilité de déboucher sur un contrat d'exploitation. Le PDG de Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, a souligné que cette coopération stratégique reflète la confiance mutuelle entre les deux groupes et vise un développement responsable des ressources naturelles. De son côté, Sinopec a exprimé sa volonté de renforcer sa présence en Algérie et d’apporter son expertise technique. Présente en Algérie depuis 2002, Sinopec collabore déjà avec Sonatrach sur les champs de Zarzaitine et Hassi Berkane Nord.

Sonatrach and Sinopec signed an agreement under the supervision of Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab to assess and develop hydrocarbon resources in the Gourara and Berkine-East basins. The agreement, signed by Ferhat Ounoughi for Sonatrach and Wu Xiuli for Sinopec, initiates a renewable six-month collaboration period that may lead to a development contract. Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi emphasized that this strategic partnership reflects mutual trust and aims for the responsible development of natural resources. Sinopec, in turn, expressed its commitment to strengthening its presence in Algeria and contributing technical expertise. Operating in Algeria since 2002, Sinopec is already involved with Sonatrach in the Zarzaitine and Hassi Berkane Nord fields.
