Representatives of the Agence Nationale d'Etude et de Suivi de la Réalisation des Investissements Ferroviaires (ANESRIF) presented a study of the route of the El Meniaa-In Salah-Tamanrasset rail link, over a distance of more than a thousand kilometres, at a meeting held at the In-Salah wilaya headquarters, the In-Salah wilaya authorities announced on Saturday.

Chaired by the wali, Abdelkader Bendjima, in the presence of local authorities, elected officials and executives, representatives of civil society, as well as technical services and design offices, the meeting was an opportunity for Anesrif's director of studies, Farouk Kliouati, to give a detailed presentation of the project and its scope, as part of a mega-project to develop railways in Algeria.

According to the presentation, the rail route will link the wilayas of El-Meniaa and In-Salah over a distance of 410 km, and the wilayas of In-Salah and Tamanrasset over a distance of 680 km.

The director of public works for the wilaya of In-Salah, Aissa Bouhelfaya, explained that the project holds out "promising" development prospects for the wilaya, and will not fail, in its strategic dimensions, to "inject dynamism into the region in the socio-economic, agricultural and tourism fields".
Representatives of the wilaya's executive and technical departments took the opportunity to raise a series of questions with Anesrif executives concerning the solutions envisaged for the intersection and interference of the railway project with hydrocarbon transport pipelines and the transit zones for nomadic populations and the transhumance of their livestock.

Representatives of the region's civil society, for their part, stressed the need to respect the region's typical architectural character in the construction of the In-Salah railway station.
