Western mining railway line: increased mobilization as commissioning approaches

In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, issued at the Council of Ministers meeting held on November 16, 2025, concerning the full commissioning of the Western mining railway line during January 2026, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djallaoui, chaired a meeting on Sunday of the public works subcommittee responsible for monitoring and implementing this strategic project.

This meeting, attended by representatives from the various sectors concerned, was devoted to reviewing work progress on the western mining line linking Béchar to Tindouf and on to Gara Djebilet.

On this occasion, a detailed presentation was given on the progress of work on the remaining sections, particularly the laying of track and ballast, as well as the construction of railway stations. The Minister emphasised the need to continue the work at a steady pace, to strengthen inter-sectoral coordination and to mobilise all available human and material resources to complete the work on the entire route before the end of the current year, in accordance with the deadlines set.

The Western Mining Railway Line is a major national infrastructure project that will play a central role in developing the mining sector and supporting economic growth, particularly through the exploitation and transport of mineral resources from Gara Djebilet to the country's industrial and port hubs.
