The early completion of a key overpass on the southwestern railway line, connecting the Gara Djebilet iron mine to industrial areas, marks a major step forward in this strategic project. Built by Cosider and China's CRCC, the Hammaguir–El Assel section (440 km) is progressing at a steady pace, with 3 km of track being laid every day. At the same time, the Oum El Assel–Tindouf section (175 km) is entering the track-laying phase, using automated welding technology. This project, considered an “artery of economic development,” is expected to become partially operational in 2026 with the first ore processing units. Beyond iron ore mining, this line will also support agricultural development in the southwest, which is essential to national food security (wheat, milk). This project symbolizes the ongoing transformation of the Algerian mining sector towards higher added value
