Laws on money laundering, terrorist financing and personal data processing published in the JO

ALGIERS - The law on preventing and combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism, and the law on the protection of individuals concerning the processing of personal data, have been published in Official Gazette number 48, dated July 24.

Law 25-10 on preventing and combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism provides for "appropriate measures to identify, evaluate and understand the risks of money laundering, the financing of terrorism and/or the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to which Algeria is exposed, and to update them regularly".

It also underlines the obligation to "make the results of national and sectoral assessments available to the competent authorities and those subject to them, through appropriate mechanisms, in compliance with legislation on the protection of personal data".

Law 25-11 on the protection of individuals about the processing of personal data details several key points, such as the "processing of personal data for crime prevention and detection, investigations, inquiries, criminal prosecutions, execution and enforcement of sentences" and the "study of the impact of the processing and violation of personal data".

This text also provides a framework for the "transfer of data to a foreign country or an international organization".
