Launch of the first container transport operation by train from the port of Algiers

ALGIERS - The first container transport operation by train has been launched from the port of Algiers to the Rouiba area, with the aim to improve port performance and ensuring the smooth flow of goods, according to a statement issued Monday by the Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation.

Forty-eight 20-foot containers were transported during this operation, which took place on Sunday, "in a move reflecting the adoption of modern and diversified modes of transport and the use of capacities and resources to improve container handling and ensure the smooth flow of goods," the statement added.

This operation, which is part of efforts to improve logistical efficiency and optimise the performance of national ports, comes "in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud," the same source concludes.
