Algeria interested in Ugandan coffee and milk

As a major consumer of coffee and milk powder, Algeria is looking south to source these two essential products. Uganda, which has already signed supply contracts for coffee, is aiming to expand its market share for milk powder in the near future.

Algeria plans to import 20,000 tonnes of coffee annually to meet growing local demand. Uganda is a key supplier, with a recent contract for 800 tonnes scheduled for February 2025. Regarding milk powder, despite competitive opportunities in the Algerian market, no Ugandan company has responded to tenders. However, Algeria is investing to reduce its import dependency, notably with a major project in partnership with Qatar to produce 200,000 tonnes of milk powder annually. This project aims to make Algeria a milk powder exporter in the medium term. On the other hand, coffee demand remains dependent on the international market.
