El Sewedy Electric Algeria has signed a $100 million contract with the Ivorian company SOGELUX to supply electrical cables over five years, covering approximately 30% of the Ivorian market's needs. This partnership is presented as a source of national pride and a showcase for the quality of "Made in Algeria" products.
This contract marks a significant step forward for Algerian exports of electrical cables and accessories, and is part of a growth trend in the sector. El Sewedy also plans to expand its factory in Ain Defla and set up a joint venture with Sonelgaz to develop power plant projects in Africa and the Middle East.
Faced with strong demand for electrical equipment on the African continent, Algeria is seeking to increase supply contracts, with an overall target of $9 billion. The economic forum held in Algiers, bringing together more than 175 participants, aims to strengthen trade links between Algeria and African countries, diversify non-hydrocarbon exports, and promote domestic industry.
This agreement with Côte d'Ivoire could be the first in a series of trade agreements, supported by the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area, and reflects Algeria's strategy of regional economic expansion.
