During the presentation of his sector's 2026 budget to the APN Finance Committee, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Mourad Adjal, reaffirmed the state's commitment to developing renewable energy and diversifying the national energy mix. He announced plans to connect remote areas, particularly in the south, to the electricity grid through solar systems and off-grid photovoltaic power plants.

The minister highlighted the multiple benefits of this strategy: gas savings, local industrial development, promotion of green hydrogen, export of green electricity, and reduction of the carbon footprint. He also mentioned Algeria's efforts in the field of hydrogen, with pilot projects led by Sonelgaz and Sonatrach, a project for a corridor for hydrogen exports to Europe (SoutH2 Corridor).

The government spends more than 20 billion Algerian dinars per year on electricity subsidies in certain regions of the south and the highlands, and 133.6 billion Algerian dinars are earmarked for 2026 to finance energy connections, renewable energy projects, and support for new provinces. Mourad Adjal also emphasized the need for a clear regulatory framework, skilled human capital, and a transparent energy market to ensure a successful transition. Finally, modernizing and adapting the electricity grid to integrate renewable energy remains a priority.
