The ceremony was overseen by the Director General of the AAPI, Omar Rekache, accompanied by the Wali of Touggourt, Othman Abdelaziz, in the presence of local authorities and the Walis of Ouargla, El Oued and El Meghaier.
The project cost exceeds 27 billion dinars.
The project, costing over 27 billion dinars, initially plans to produce "2 million units per year for heavy vehicles", to which will then be added "3 million units for light vehicles". It will occupy a 20-hectare site in Tamasine and is part of a wider programme comprising similar projects in Oran, Sétif and Oum El Bouaghi. Together, these factories are expected to achieve a total annual production volume of nearly 19 million tyres, thereby helping to "meet national needs and reduce the import bill".
The project is also expected to have an impact on local employment, with the creation of "1,720 direct jobs and hundreds of indirect jobs" in the Touggourt region and neighbouring areas.
