Since its creation in 2022-2025, the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) has registered 1,311 projects in the agriculture sector, totalling around $3.8 billion. Imane Toumi, director at the Agency, stated during a meeting dedicated to agriculture organised on the sidelines of the 4th edition of the African Start-up Conference (ASC 2025) that 33.6% of these projects have either been completed or are currently underway.
Creation of 21,730 jobs
These projects are expected to create 21,730 jobs, broken down by sector: 94.8% projects are in crop and livestock production, 4.7% in fishing and aquaculture, and 0.5% in forestry. By region, the south accounts for the lion's share with 65.1%, followed by the north with 18.2% and the Highlands with 16.7%.
During her presentation, Ms Toumi highlighted investment opportunities in this sector, including agricultural production, livestock farming, and processing. Agricultural mechanisation is another niche that offers prospects for investors, citing the field of preservation and cold storage as an example.
