"Between 2020 and December 2025, more than 230,000 new individual business registrations were recorded, including more than 600,000 managed by young people aged 18 to 38," said Ms Abdellatif at the first National Conference on "Employment, assessing the management of unemployment benefits and mediation for employment opportunities," held at the Ben Aknoun Family Centre (Algiers).
Over 60,000 new businesses created
On the corporate side, more than "60,000 new businesses have been created, nearly 80,000 of which are run by young people," adds the Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, who emphasises the key role of the commercial sector in creating jobs for young people. Ms Abdellatif highlights the efforts made to ensure an environment conducive to youth employability. In this vein, she points out that the opening of new businesses, the development of distribution chains, the promotion of e-commerce and the organisation of specialised exhibitions "offer vast direct and indirect professional opportunities".
According to her, each new establishment or entrepreneurial project creates an ecosystem of jobs in transport, storage, marketing, accounting, digital services and communication. The minister also highlights recent structural reforms that have revitalised the sector and encouraged young people to start their own businesses.
Revival of more than 200 markets across the country
Ms Abdellatif emphasises the importance of initiatives in the circular economy, waste management and recycling, and the digitisation of trade, to create new value chains and reduce informal work. To this end, she highlights the role of exhibitions and fairs organised by SAFEX. According to her, these events offer young entrepreneurs "platforms to showcase their products, forge partnerships and develop their projects in a professional setting".
Finally, the minister announced a programme to renovate and revitalise more than 200 markets across the country. These commercial spaces aim, she said, "to combat the informal economy and support young people in pursuing legal and secure activities, thereby contributing to a stable economic environment that is conducive to employment".
