Ms Bakir is discussing with the World Bank Group’s Resident Representative in Algeria ways of strengthening cooperation in the mining sector.
Support for projects related to the development of the mining sector
The meeting, which took place at the ministry’s headquarters and was attended by senior officials from both sides, forms part of ongoing consultations and discussions and provided an opportunity to explore ways of strengthening cooperation, particularly in technical matters, the exchange of expertise and support for projects related to the development of the mining sector, according to the same source.
The discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation in the area of technical assistance, as well as current and future projects, particularly those related to the development of the mining sector in Algeria, notably in the fields of mining operations and processing, according to the press release. In this context, Ms Bakir Tafer gave a presentation on the sector’s main development programmes and the infrastructure projects currently underway, including the legal framework governing mining activities in Algeria and the incentives and support measures available to investors.
Exchange of expertise
The State Secretary to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, responsible for Mines, also highlighted the sector’s development plans, particularly concerning the utilisation and local processing of mineral resources through several key projects, in addition to the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine project, the integrated phosphate processing project, the zinc-lead mine project, as well as other projects aimed at producing raw materials for various processing industries.
For her part, the World Bank Group’s Resident Representative in Algeria expressed the Group’s interest in Algeria’s mining sector, emphasising its willingness to assist and support organisations in the sector, particularly by helping to attract investment, the involvement of foreign public and private companies, as well as support in project management, technical assistance and the exchange of expertise throughout the mining sector’s value chain, the statement concluded.
