At the global mining event Resourcing Tomorrow in London, Secretary of State Karima Bakir Tafer presented Algeria's strategy for promoting its rare minerals. Algeria aims to become a key partner in securing global supplies of strategic resources, which are essential for the energy transition and the green economy. The Algerian delegation highlighted investment opportunities in the national mining sector, with high-level meetings to promote the country as a major player in critical minerals.

The national strategy is based on three main pillars: developing the exploitation of rare minerals, promoting local processing of resources, and strengthening geological research. The aim is to increase the added value of the mining sector and develop related industries. Algeria has diverse, still under-exploited mineral resources, and a process of legal and regulatory reforms is underway to improve the sector's attractiveness.

The new mining law, which aims to modernize governance in the sector, should secure investment while ensuring sustainable resource exploitation. Algeria is positioning itself as a reliable supplier with strong potential in the supply chain for minerals essential to modern technologies and the low-carbon economy, while benefiting from its strategic geographical location close to European markets.

In addition to providing raw resources, Algeria wants to develop local processing capacities to increase added value and integrate international industrial sectors linked to renewable energies. The country is seeking to establish partnerships based on technology transfer, training and responsible investment, to avoid extractive exploitation and promote sustainable local industrial development.

This participation in Resourcing Tomorrow is part of an economic diplomacy strategy aimed at diversifying the Algerian economy beyond hydrocarbons and establishing itself as a key player in the global energy transition.
