In his opening speech, Mr Sifi Ghrieb stated that the Algerian-Nigerian Business Forum was being held as part of the implementation of the high-level directives issued by the leaders of both countries, the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, the President of the Republic of Niger, Mr Abdourahamane Tiani, which were reaffirmed during the latter’s recent visit to Algeria.

He added that these guidelines outline the framework for comprehensive cooperation across various fields, including socio-economic areas, and other sectors that may be relevant to bilateral coordination, given the deep historical ties between the two brotherly peoples.

The roadmap to be adopted by the joint committee will help boost cooperation and lead to an economic agreement between the two countries, strengthening the prospects for strategic cooperation, he continued.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the importance of his visit to Niger, culminating in the conclusion of concrete agreements that meet shared aspirations, and of ensuring that the political will demonstrated is translated into tangible achievements that meet the expectations of the Algerian and Nigerien peoples.

This Business Forum provided an opportunity to review the business climate and investment prospects in Algeria and Niger, and to highlight the reforms adopted to enhance the countries’ appeal, update legal and regulatory frameworks, strengthen support mechanisms for investors, and streamline procedures.

It also highlighted investment opportunities in several strategic priority sectors with significant potential for economic integration between the two countries, such as agriculture, livestock farming, the agri-food industry, hydrocarbons, energy, renewable energy, mining, natural resource extraction, infrastructure, public works, transport, and telecommunications, modern technologies, postal services, the manufacturing industry and logistics.

The visit was also an opportunity to highlight the competitiveness of Algerian products, particularly in the agricultural and agri-food sectors, and opportunities to access the Nigerien market.

Bilateral meetings between economic operators from both sides, as well as meetings between representatives of official bodies, provided an opportunity to explore partnership opportunities and examine ways of bringing joint investment projects to fruition, thereby strengthening trade and promoting bilateral economic cooperation.

On this occasion, the Algerian-Nigerian Business Council presented a motion of thanks to the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and to the President of the Republic of Niger and Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in recognition of the new impetus given to political and economic relations between the two countries and their clear commitment to strengthening trade ties through the development of strategic and infrastructure projects between Algeria and Niger.

The meeting also featured an interactive session and an exchange of views to establish a shared vision for the development of economic cooperation between Algeria and Niger and open up promising prospects for sustainable partnerships that serve the interests of both countries.
