FERAAL–CRTI: a major turning point for Algerian iron

The Société nationale du Fer et de l’Acier (FERAAL) (National Iron and Steel Company), a subsidiary of the Sonarem Group, has taken a new step forward in developing the Gara Djebilet deposit by signing a framework agreement with the Industrial Technology Research Centre (CRTI).

An agreement was formalised on the sidelines of the first National Scientific Workshop on iron ore processing techniques for Gara Djebilet, held in Annaba. This partnership aims to develop local technological solutions and modernise production systems in line with international standards, to strengthen the competitiveness of the national steel industry.

The focus is on adapting processes to the specific characteristics of the Gara Djebilet deposit, a strategic project for Algeria. Sonarem representative Fethi Filali emphasized the importance of this deposit beyond its economic aspect as a pillar of a modern national iron industry. He called for closer ties between scientific research and industrial needs to improve processing methods.

The workshop brought together experts, researchers, industrialists and representatives from the mining and higher education sectors. Discussions highlighted the importance of the deposit for Algeria's international positioning, emphasising innovation, efficiency and technological investment. Work continues with technical and scientific interventions to deepen cooperation between the academic and industrial spheres.
