Measures to solve the overloading truck problem

The Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructures is preparing new measures aimed at limiting the overloaded truck phenomenon, which leads to road deterioration.

Expansion and maintenance of Algeria's road network: measures underway

Lakhdar Rekhroukh, Minister of Public Works, has stressed the need for reinforced measures to preserve the national road network, which extends over 144,000 km the largest in Africa. Inspections in the field have revealed an infringement increase linked to vehicle overloading, exacerbating the damage.

To remedy this situation, the Ministry is planning lane-doubling projects, subject to the availability of the necessary funds. At the same time, efforts are underway to upgrade existing roads to cope with the increase in traffic.

The technical study for the freeway bypassing Bordj Bou Arreridj and Aïn Defla (265 km) has been completed. Work has begun on a 67 km section (Khemis Miliana-Berrouaghia), while the remaining 198 km, requiring 430 billion dinars, is still awaiting financing.
