President Abdelmadjid Tebboune welcomed the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, highlighting the strength of the strategic partnership between Algeria and Italy.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector, where Algeria is establishing itself as a reliable supplier to Italy and Europe. They also agreed to expand their cooperation across several key sectors: technology, start-ups, scientific research, renewable energy, green hydrogen, agriculture and food security.

As part of the Mattei Plan for Africa, two major projects have been highlighted: an agricultural project in Timimoun and the creation of an Algerian-Italian centre of excellence dedicated to agricultural innovation. The two countries also wish to speed up the establishment of a joint chamber of commerce and strengthen cultural, scientific and security exchanges.

On the international stage, they have taken similar stances on a number of issues, including the situation in the Middle East, the Palestinian cause, stability in the Sahel, the Libyan crisis and the Western Sahara issue, emphasising dialogue, state sovereignty and peace.

For her part, Giorgia Meloni praised the strength of relations between the two countries, describing them as a model of cooperation. She emphasised the central role of energy, particularly through the partnerships between Eni and Sonatrach, as well as future projects such as offshore exploration.

She also highlighted an ambitious agricultural project aimed at developing more than 36,000 hectares of desert land, as well as initiatives in vocational training and infrastructure, thereby strengthening joint development between the two countries.
