The aim is to provide Nigerien technicians with the expertise needed to operate and manage the power plants that Algeria plans to build in Niger. The two companies scheduled this training during a meeting held on 15 and 16 February via videoconference, during which it was decided to reactivate the bilateral agreement.
During the meeting, the Sonelgaz Group reaffirmed its full commitment, through its subsidiaries, to modern infrastructure and expertise in various areas of the energy sector, to ensuring the success of this partnership, enabling the relaunch of joint projects and opening up new development opportunities in the common interests of both countries and bringing their peoples closer together.
It should also be noted that this training session is aligned with the President of the Republic's guidelines, which aim to give new impetus to cooperation between Algeria and Niger. In the same vein, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune agreed, on 16 February, when welcoming his Nigerien counterpart, Abdourahamane Tiani, to "launch the project to build the trans-Saharan gas pipeline through Nigerien territory after the holy month of Ramadan", specifying that "Sonatrach will take matters in hand and begin installing the pipeline crossing Niger".
Algeria has always been in high demand for training. The energy sector is a prime example. In addition to this training, which will be provided in Algeria, it should be noted that a technical team from the Sonelgaz group arrived in Niamey last Friday to begin assessing the site that will host the project to build a power plant for the Nigerien electricity company Nigelec.
The technical team will conduct a series of field studies to assess the selected site's readiness, including inspection of the available infrastructure and verification of the conditions for connection to the electricity grid and the site's compliance with current technical standards. All of this is part of the plan to launch the project within the allotted time frame and comply with the highest quality standards.
The project involves constructing a power plant in the Gorou Banda region of Niamey by installing two gas turbines (20 megawatts each) to strengthen production capacity and support the stability of Niger's national electricity grid.
