Cevital and Haier get down to business

Last Thursday, Algerian group Cevital and global household appliance giant Haier signed a partnership described as “strategic” during a ceremony held at the International Conference Centre in Algiers.

Cevital and Haier have formalized the creation of an industrial joint venture in Algeria, marking a major step in economic and technological cooperation between Algeria and China. This partnership aims to make Algeria a regional industrial hub through the local production of household appliances at the Samha factory (a subsidiary of Cevital) in Sétif. This unit, the result of a €500 million investment, is already equipped to produce Brandt appliances and has state-of-the-art facilities (plastic injection moulding, stamping, motor manufacturing, aluminium recycling). In the initial phase, production will focus on washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, televisions, and air conditioners, before expanding to the cooking range (hobs, ovens, stoves). The aim is to meet the expectations of the domestic market while developing exports to Africa. This project is part of a drive to transfer know-how, provide local training, and strengthen industrial sovereignty, with products that meet international standards and an integration rate of over 70%.
