The 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint Cooperation Commission was held on Friday in Tunis, co-chaired by Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb and Tunisian Head of Government Sarra Zaafrani. In this context, a Joint Economic Forum was organised, co-chaired by the two leaders, in the presence of ministers and economic actors from both countries.

Discussions focused on investments and partnership opportunities in the industrial, energy and tourism sectors, to raise bilateral cooperation to a strategic level.

7 partnership agreements and new prospects

On the sidelines of the Forum, seven partnership agreements were signed between Algerian and Tunisian companies in the textile, food and tourism sectors.

A cooperation agreement was also signed between the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA) and the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA).

Other agreements between private economic actors from both countries are expected to be finalised in the coming days, consolidating the economic and trade partnership.

Strengthening bilateral trade and growth

The Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, pointed out that the historical and fraternal ties between the two countries now reflect a shared desire to build a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Although the current volume of trade does not yet meet the ambitions of the two countries, there has been a significant increase over the last three years, with growth exceeding 42%.

According to him, the Forum provided "an opportunity to outline a new vision for economic cooperation based on efficiency, rapid implementation and mutual sustainability".

A privileged space for private and public partnerships

Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development Samir Abid described the Forum as a major step towards exploring strategic partnerships and strengthening collaboration between the private sectors of the two countries.

"Algeria and Tunisia are moving forward together towards a new phase in their economic and trade partnership," he added, emphasising the convergence of the deep fraternal relations between the two peoples.

The talks also included bilateral meetings between ministers on industry, energy, trade, finance, health, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure, with a view to strengthening overall cooperation.

Stronger momentum for a lasting partnership

The Forum and the session of the Joint Grand Commission illustrate the commitment of both countries to developing joint projects, stimulating trade and creating new investment opportunities.

These initiatives are part of a clear objective: to build a sustainable and strategic economic partnership that benefits private actors, governments and, above all, the populations of both nations.
